1. Empty the lint filter after each cycle
Residues that accumulate in the lint filter are highly flammable. Develop the habit of systematically removing any lint after each load.
2. Wash the filter with soap and water 2 or 3 times a year
Periodically cleaning your lint filter is a great way to reduce the risk of fire. As a bonus, this gesture increases the efficiency of your appliance by reducing drying time! Here's how to do it: Immerse the filter in hot, soapy water and rub the grill several times on both sides with a small brush. Then let the filter dry completely before putting it back in place.
3. Watch out for clothes soiled with flammable liquids
Even if they have been machine-washed, textiles may retain traces of flammable liquids (cooking oil, paint thinner, etc.) and catch fire when drying. The solution? Hang them on a hanger or clothesline.
4. Don’t overload your machine
Overloading your dryer can cause overheating. So, put in fewer clothes at a time, remembering that, since they will dry faster, in the end you will save money!
